2000 Selected as charter member of the Academy of Outstanding Faculty Engaged in Extension at North Carolina State University.

2000  Received the 1998-1999 Outstanding Extension Service Award for service to North Carolina State University extension students.

1999  Received the VIP Award for service to North Carolina Health Occupations Students of America organization.

1998  Nominated for National Association for Research in Science Teaching Dissertation Award.

1996-1998  Selected as a member of the Florida League of Teachers, an organization sponsored by the Florida Department of Education to engage some of Florida’s most outstanding teachers in the statewide implementation of school improvement and accountability

1995  Received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Secondary Science Teaching, an award sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the White House,  administered through the National Science Teachers Association

1995  Recognized as Outstanding High School Science Teacher for the State of Florida, an award sponsored and judged by the Florida Association of Science Teachers

1994  Chosen as a National Science Teachers Association/Dow Chemical Company Fellow.  Sixteen such fellows are selected nationally, each year, to attend a two-week summer institute at Dow Chemical Company headquarters in Midland, MI
