About the Department of Physical Education
Mission Statement
The primary mission of the Department of Physical Education is to educate students regarding the benefits of living a healthy and physically active lifestyle; provide opportunities for sport, fitness and leisure, and professional preparation in the areas of coaching education, fitness leadership, health, and outdoor education and to serve NC State students, the University, and the community.
Instruction
The Department of Physical Education offers a variety of both activity and lecture courses.
The Department also provides four academic minors including Coaching Education, Fitness Leadership, Health, and Outdoor Leadership.
The Department serves both traditional and non-traditional students with courses offered through Distance Education courses.
NC State Physical Education Requirement
All students attending North Carolina State University are required to complete two Physical Education courses to meet the University General Education Requirement (GER). One course must be a Fitness and Wellness course (Fitness and Wellness courses are those found in the PE 100-level series). Students with disabling conditions and special needs will be accommodated and assisted by the Department of Physical Education and the Disability Services Office.
Public Service
The Department's public service contributions encompass instruction, continuing education, research, public school outreach, community engagement, and special needs activity involvement. While the sense of service permeates throughout the University, the primary function of the Department of Physical Education is to extend NC State's resources to the citizens of North Carolina. Departmental Newsletter
The Department of Physical Education publishes a departmental newsletter quarterly. The most recent issue is the September 2009 newsletter. Archive issues include:June 2009; March 2009; December 2008; September 2008; June 2008; March 2008; & December 2007.
Facilities
