1.  Summer Earnings for Nine-Month EPA Employees

During the summer, a nine-month (academic year) EPA employee may work for NC State in teaching, research, extension, or some combination of these activities.  An individual may earn up to a total of 33.33% of their nine-month salary across these areas.

2.  Summer Sessions Instructional Compensation for Nine-Month EPA Employees

A nine-month (academic year) EPA employee in a permanent position (.75 FTE or more) may receive Summer Sessions instructional compensation as follows:

2.1.  Compensation is provided for on-campus instruction at a rate of 3.3 percent of an individual's full-time nine-month salary per credit hour taught (i.e. 9.9 percent for a 3 credit-hour course).

2.2.  Compensation is not authorized for the supervision of summer graduate student research, special problems, or special projects.

2.3.  Conditions affecting individuals not meeting the permanent position (.75 FTE or more) criterion are to be negotiated on a case-by-case basis and documented in a letter of offer.

3. Summer Sessions Release Time for 1.0 FTE 12-Month EPA Employees

Departments may request and receive reimbursement from the Summer Sessions budget, subject to available funds, for release time associated with 1.0 FTE 12-month EPA employees who teach regularly scheduled Summer Sessions courses.  Reimbursement is not authorized for the supervision of summer graduate student research, special problems, or special projects.

4. Exceptions

A department head (or designee) requesting an exception to these provisions must submit advance justification/request to their Dean/Division Head for review and transmittal to the Provost/Vice Chancellor for final approval.  Exceptions involving Summer Sessions must be submitted and approved before the start of the respective Summer Session, with a copy of the request to be sent to the Director of Summer Sessions.
