1. Introduction

The Reuben B. Robertson Professorship was established to support the research and education mission of the Wood and Paper Science Department at NC State University. This rule describes the procedure to award this professorship.

2. Procedure

  1. Full professors with a full time appointment, working in some aspect of Paper Science and Engineering, in the Department of Wood and Paper Science (WPS) may be nominated (self-nominated or by other faculty in WPS) to the Dean's Office.

  2. The Dean will appoint a selection committee consisting of tenured NC State faculty members with a majority of Named Professors.  

  3. The committee will recommend a recipient to the Dean based on merit.   The committee shall obtain five letters of support from outside the University, a Curriculum Vita, a personal statement that provides a vision for the position, and documentation of the candidate's accomplishments in research, teaching, and extension.

  4. The funds for the position will be used as follows: $5,000 will go to the Robertson Professor to be used at his or her discretion to support his or her research, teaching or service responsibilities.   Remaining funds will be used to support a graduate student's program of research under the supervision of the Robertson Professor.

  5. The Named Professorship will be reviewed after a period of five years at which time it may be renewed or reassigned to another full professor. Only one renewal of five years is permitted.
