1. INTRODUCTION
The Bayer Environmental Science Professor of Sustainable Development was established in 2008 by Bayer Environmental Science to provide salary support and/or program support for a full professor working in turfgrass management or other related areas in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
2. CRITERIA
2.1. Nominees who are current faculty members must be a full Professor with a full-time appointment working in turfgrass management or other related areas within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences providing support to the green industry. Nominees outside NC State must qualify for an appointment as a tenured Professor in turfgrass management or other related areas within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences providing support to the green industry.
2.2. Faculty members carrying a "named professor" designation are not eligible to receive a second named professorship.
3. PROCEDURE
The selection process for the Bayer Environmental Science Professor of Sustainable Development is as follows:
3.1. The Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, in consultation with representatives from Bayer Environmental Science (Donor), will nominate a candidate for the Bayer Environmental Science Professor of Sustainable Development.
3.2. The Dean will obtain from the nominee five copies of the following nomination materials (credentials):
(a) Name of nominee;
(b) Name of sponsor - Dean, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences;
(c) Biographical data;
(d) Educational background with emphasis on scholarship, academic achievements, professional recognition and accomplishments;
(e) Statement (limited to 250 words) describing the nominee's qualifications;
(f) List of publications attesting to nominee's professional competence (abstracts need not be listed);
(g) Three supporting letters of recommendation from NC State University faculty members;
(h) Three supporting letters of recommendation from professional colleagues outside the NC State University faculty;
3.3. The Dean shall appoint a committee comprised of five NC State Professors of Distinction and one representative appointed by Bayer Environmental Science to review the nomination materials submitted by the nominee. The approval of the nominee is decided by the vote of a majority of the committee.
3.4. Upon approval of the nominee, the Dean issues a formal letter of award with copies to the applicable department head and the individual. A copy of the letter of award shall be placed in the faculty member's personnel file.
3.5. Bayer Environmental Science Professor of Sustainable Development is a time-limited appointment of three years. Recipients may be reappointed for an unlimited number of consecutive three-year terms by approval of the Dean and a positive vote by a majority of a committee appointed by the Dean in accordance with section 3.3, above.
3.6. The Dean informs the Chancellor and Provost of the new appointment.
