August 19, 2008 (Current Version) Revisions based on several months of implementation experience, this provides some language clarifications and a few process changes, including: (1) True effective date of program corrected to April 1, 2007 (not Mar 1, as originally anticipated). (2) Includes the definition of what constitutes a “criminal conviction”. (3) Traffic-violation wording corrected (from “misdemeanor” to “minor” violation). (4) Form Name corrected (from “Authorization Form” to “Release Form”). (5) Corrects that candidate sends Release Form directly to HR (not to hiring unit). (6) Specifies what background-check-result information is relayed by HR to hiring unit. (7) Changes procedure to allow candidates to commence work prior to completion of background check only with express written approval from the AVC of HR. (8) Language added to expressly acknowledge the University’s right to check public records on a current employee without a signed release form, based on reasonable suspicion, and to base employment action on findings (including falsification by omission or commission of previously-submitted employment materials, and/or seriousness of findings) as warranted. (9) Adds requirement that camps/programs using university facilities must background-check their staff & volunteers (10) Changes title of regulation to “Background Checks” (from “Background Checks for Employees” to cover non-university staff/volunteers of such camps/programs). (11) deletion of section 5.7.
