As an agency of the state of North Carolina, NC State University is required to follow various federal and state laws and regulations, as well as policies and regulations of the University of North Carolina. 1. Purpose The Fair Labor Standards Act, (FLSA) establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, record-keeping, and child labor standards. 2. Covered Employees The provisions of the Act apply to all university employees, regardless of status, including SPA (Staff), EPA, Agricultural Extension, student and temporary employees. Requirements for establishing volunteer, non-employee status are also outlined. All university employees are subject to overtime unless their duties have specifically been determined to be exempt. |
