As an agency of the state of North Carolina, NC State University is required to follow various federal and state laws and regulations, as well as policies and regulations of the University of North Carolina.

1. Purpose

Promotion results from transfer to a position at a higher salary grade. The promotional salary increase rewards the employee for assuming more responsible duties associated with the higher level position. Based on availability of funds, the following guidelines determine the amount of salary increase.

2. Covered Employees

Full-time and part-time permanent SPA (Staff) employees, persons in time-limited appointments, and trainee employees are covered by this policy.
