1. Purpose:
Students who drop courses or withdraw from the University may be eligible
for a full or partial refund of tuition and fees.
2. The Rule that governs refunds due to dropping courses or withdrawing from
the University is as follows:
2.1. Courses may be dropped without regard to course load during the first
two weeks of a semester. The number of hours for which a student is officially
enrolled and upon which tuition and fees are based is that number in which
the student is enrolled at the end of the second week of classes (i.e.,
the last day to drop a course with a refund or reduction.)
2.2. Refunds for official withdrawals from North Carolina State University
are prorated and no refunds are made for official withdrawals after 50%
of the enrollment period. DROPPING ALL COURSES CONSTITUTES WITHDRAWAL FROM
THE UNIVERSITY.
2.3. An Administrative charge of 5% of the total tuition and fee, room rent,
and meal plan charges not to exceed $100 will be retained.
2.4. Questions regarding tuition and fee refunds should be addressed to University
Cashier's Office at 515-2986; housing refunds to University Housing at 515-2440;
meal plan refunds to University Dining at 515-3090.
2.5. Students are responsible for payment of housing and meal plan services
that are provided.
2.6. Students that withdraw after the 0% date may file a refund
application appeal in the Student Accounts Section of the University
Cashier's Office. The appeal must be substantiated by medical reasons, unexpected
employment changes, death in the immediate family, or University error and
will be reviewed by the University Fee Appeals Committee.
2.7. Withdrawal dates and related Refund rates for the current semester are
shown in the University's Cashiers Website.
3. Students who receive Title IV financial aid are subject to separate federal
refund regulations governing such aid. Changes in the number of hours a student
is enrolled for may have an effect on eligibility for aid, and may result
in a student having to repay all or a portion of the aid. Students who have
specific questions should contact the Office of Scholarships & Financial
Aid for additional information.
