1. Regulation:

Currently enrolled NCSU students, who have paid the University health fee, are eligible to use Student Health Services (SHS). SHS will also see certain other people such as visitors, staff for occupational medicine, and "continuing students." Procedures clarify who is eligible, dates of eligibility, and exceptions.

1.1. FALL AND SPRING SEMESTERS

Fall Semester students are eligible from check-in day until first day of Spring Semester classes.
*Exception: Newly enrolling students who come to SHS for immunizations should be told we prefer they receive immunizations from their personal physician, a public health department or an urgent care center; but if students request immunizations here, preferably by appointment, we will provide them including meningitis shots There will be no summer session fee required but the student will pay for the immunizations the day of the service.
Spring Semester students are eligible from check-in day until first day of summer school.

1.2. SUMMER SESSIONS- Registered Students

Students registered for Summer School are entitled to all University services, including the use of the Student Health Services during the session(s) they are registered. Eligibility dates are from the first day of summer session classes to last day of exams.

1.3. SUMMER SESSIONS- Non-Registered Continuing Students

Students not enrolled in Summer School but enrolled in the previous Spring Semester or are pre-registered or intend to register for the upcoming Fall Semester may pay a Summer Session health fee to be seen at SHS. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid prior to check in.

1.4. The following patients are eligible for services:

1.4.1. All registered, degree seeking, fee paying undergrads and graduate students

1.4.2. Lifelong education, PBS and Co-op students

1.4.3. Summer orientation student counselors during orientation training and sessions

1.4.4. National Student Exchange (NSE) students who have paid NCSU health fees

1.4.5. Post-docs listed on the official eligibility list

1.4.6. Vet School students are eligible year-round (do not need to pay summer health fee)

1.4.7. MGE Summer research program participants

1.4.8. UNC-CH Biomedical Enginerring students and SEED Program for High School students

1.5. The following patients are not eligible for services (they have not paid fees)

1.5.1. Distance Education students

1.5.2. NC State employees, faculty, inactive students, worker comp patients (should be referred to Rx Urgent Care Center) Exception: Active students who are injured while employed by NCSU.

1.5.3. NC State employees taking a "tuition" free course

1.5.4. Visiting faculty, visiting research staff, visiting scholars

1.5.5. Encore lifelong enrichment students

1.5.6. Students who graduate in December or end of summer

NOTE: Students who withdraw will be eligible for services until the date of withdrawal. Students who have withdrawn may be allowed one courtesy visit or prescription refill upon provider approval/request.

1.6. EXCEPTIONS

1.6.1 Students who are prescribed Depo-Provera or oral contraceptives by SHS, were enrolled during Spring Semester, and plan to enroll in the fall semester, may use SHS for continuation of their contraceptive only. Patients seen late in the spring semester may be allowed one courtesy follow-up visit upon provider approval/request. Pharmacy refills can be provided without a summer session fee. To be seen for any other reason would require payment of the Summer Session health fee. 1.6.2. Graduate students, who were enrolled in Spring Semester but not summer, and are engaged on campus doing research, etc., may pay a session health fee to be seen at SHS during the summer. Many TA/RA's on BCBS student insurance will be enrolled in the summer and be eligible for services.

1.6.3. Graduated students in May may pay the summer session fee to be eligible after graduation.

1.6.4. New fall graduate students who are academically working on campus in the summer may pay a Summer Session health fee, plus any ancillary charges incurred.

1.6.5. Immunizations: There is no summer session or semester charge for students who start a series of tests or shots in a semester and need to finish them in the next semester or for students returning from travel and need follow up recommended skin test for PPD. Students would need to pay for the test or shots the day of the service if they are inactive

1.6.6. International exchange students (they may pay health fee or fee for service by presenting proper NCSU identification. Payment must be received the day of service.)

1.6.7. Vet School exchange students form St. George and Ross University, etc. must have their own health insurance, do not pay a health fee and may only be treated as visitor for urgent care service. Payment must be received the day of service.

1.7. Individuals attending University-sponsored short courses, camps, institutes, Upward Bound, Transitions, and USDA Challenge Grant may pay a Summer health fee to be eligible for basic treatment and services for duration of the scheduled course/institute/camp, or pay per visit, and pay ancillary charges. The sponsoring organization will be billed for the fee.

1.8. Visitors injured on campus may receive emergency medical care at SHS. Students attending University-sponsored activities, such as orientation, WolfCamp and open house, are treated and charged the usual user charges but no summer session's fee.

1.9. Students returning to campus early for Fall semester for athletics, band, housing RA/RD jobs, etc., are eligible to be treated and not charged a summer fee. Athletes remaining on campus following spring exams will also be served and not charged a summer fee. (An athletic referral form is required to distinguish athletes.)

1.10. Having BCBS student insurance does not give eligibility to SHS. The insurance is in effect outside SHS even when student is no longer eligible to use SHS due to graduation, withdrawal or taking a semester off.

1.11. All non-registered student exceptions and Post Docs that pay special fees and charges are to pay by cash, check or charge card. Their charges are not to be transferred to the University Cashier's Office.

1.12. Questions should be referred to the Director or Assistant Director or to provider for continuity of care questions.
