Will Cantera and Shraddha Ishwad after the 5K Race
On March 21, 2009, a small but determined AFAR team walked to honor colleague Jaime Vodvarka. The morning was full of sunshine, although it was a tad cold. Nonetheless, Will Cantara, Shraddha Ishwad and President, Dr. Paul Agris made their way to the starting line and ran the 5K course. Program Assistant, Mary Beth Hollmann stayed behind to man the booth and was able to inform many people about AFAR’s mission.
We are so grateful to everyone who donated! We were able to raise $1,905, more than half of our $3,000 goal! Even more exciting, the website remained open until the end of April, so those who may not have been able to donate in March took that opportunity in April.
It was a wonderful coincidence that Jaime’s friends and family held a “Jaime Fest” get-together in Raleigh to celebrate her amazing life. AFAR staff and supporters were there, the turn out was great and people were able to smile and laugh about the wonderful memories that Jaime had given us. Overall, it was a great day for remembering Jaime.
If you did not have the opportunity to donate to AFAR in Jaime’s name or if you simply wish to donate to AFAR, please do. You can send your donation to AFAR at:
American Foundation for Aging Research—Biochemistry Department, North Carolina State University - Campus Box 7622 Raleigh, NC 27695-7622.
THANK YOU again to all those that donated to the walk and for helping us honor and our wonderful colleague and friend.
