Modern Development

The island is poor in natural resources and has only a limited number of agricultural products that are exported. In addition, the government has implemented high duties on building products and other goods imported into the country. Thus, the peoples living here must often make use of locally available resources for building their homes and other parts of their infrastructure, including wood and cement.
