1. FAC
Faculty Advisory Committee
Lindsey, Martin, Gunnoe, Muddiman, Hanck, Khaledi The Faculty Advisory Committee (FAC) functions to facilitate communication in both directions between the faculty and the departmental administration on policy and planning issues to ensure representation of diverse views. The FAC also coordinates the work of administrative units and other committees.
2. AOC
Academic Operation Committee
Khaledi*, Hanck, Bowden, Brown, Petrovich, Gallardo-Williams, Neyhart, Burgess Will address short term issues related to academic programs and student affairs as well as course offerings and class scheduling.
3. GA
Graduate Admissions
Bowden*, Smirnov, Oliver-Hoyo, Melander This committee acts to advance the quality and quantity of students in the program. Members will reach consensus on the admission of graduate students and oversee admissions activities of the Graduate Office.

4. GC
Graduate Curriculum
Bowden*, Comins, Gunnoe, Whangbo, Muddiman This committee acts continually to assess and modify graduate curricula and degree requirements to meet pedagogical goals and to remain in compliance with certification or accreditation agencies. Members will propose the creation of new course offerings, define these in terms of need and general structure, propose the elimination of outdated offerings, and determine the frequency of course offerings.

Graduate Recruiting
Oliver-Hoyo*, Novak, Ghiladi, Ison, Deiters, Nevzorov This committee acts to advance the quality and manage the quantity of applications to our graduate program. Members will devise and implement recruiting initiatives, encourage all faculty to engage in recruiting efforts, advise faculty on these efforts, and oversee recruiting activities of the Graduate Office.
6. Graduate and Undergraduate Awards Shultz*, Bowden, Gunnoe, Warren Will select the recipients of the various awards and fellowships for undergraduate and graduate awards.
7. Undergraduate Curriculum and Advising Committee Neyhart*, Brown, He, Gunnoe, Banks Will complete the implementation of the new undergraduate curriculum. Will provide guidelines and training for faculty to participate in advising undergraduate students in Chemistry. Will oversee students assignments to advisors on an equitable basis.

Undergraduate Research
Gunnoe*, Deiters, Gallardo-Williams Will promote and organize undergraduate research.
9. DET
Distance Education and Technology
Sandberg*, Gorman, Petrovich, Ana Ison Will conduct a feasibility study for creation of a computer testing facility with a capacity to handle general and organic chemistry service courses; Will explore the mechanisms and assist faculty in developing instructional materials in electronic format for distributed learning; Will provide awareness, guidelines and assistance in offering course materials on the web; Will identify suitable resources such as software tools, software developers, web sites, etc. for creation of new electronic, audio/visual, and interactive learning materials for class room teaching, animation and demonstration, support of teaching laboratories, etc.

Alumni and Industrial Relations
TBA This committee advocates the growth of the department, identifies and pursues new opportunities to obtain resources, and maintains a working relationship with faculty on university committees. Members propose and implement initiatives consistent with the mandate and act as representatives of the department in interactions with the university and alumni.

International Relations
Franzen*, Smirnov, He, Oliver-Hoyo Folmer Will explore opportunities for research collaboration with faculty, student exchange / recruitment in different countries; Will identify and target key international institutions and programs and initiate dialog for establishment of long term relationships
12. CIW
Computers, IT & Web
Hennessee*, Whitten, Sremaniak, Sandberg, Melander Will assess the overall need of the department in the areas of computer, network, IT , and Web support for research and teaching.
13. OSF
Operations, Space, and Facilities
Hanck*, Novak, Whangbo, Maggard, Neyhart, Shultz, Barefoot This committee acts to maximize the efficiency of departmental operations, continually review space and facilities needs for teaching and research, and develop recommendations to address long- and short-term space and facilities needs. Members will manage, in conjunction with the Chair, how space, facilities, and staff are allocated.
14. Safety Hanck*, Novak, Gorman, Petrovich This committee acts to ensure that the department meets or exceeds all relevant safety standards. Members will inform the department of safety issues and changes in university policy, oversee the safety instruction provided to new employees, provide assistance to PI’s in development of safety plans, and conduct periodic inspections of laboratories.
15. Seminar Smirnova*, Maggard, Bowden, Melander This committee acts to assemble and advertise the departmental seminar program, invite speakers, ensure that a diverse set of speakers are invited, assess quality of seminar room and AV facilities, and encourage faculty and graduate student attendance. Members will extend invitations to seminar speakers, select faculty host for each speaker, approve date of visit, and otherwise execute tasks required to run the seminar program.
16. Awards Whangbo*, Smirnova, Comins, Warren This committee shall act to promote the recognition of the department and members within it. Members shall, in part, identify awards and growth opportunities for faculty and staff and assist the Chair in identifying and selecting candidates for these opportunities.

Staff Advisor Committee
Boyle, Hennessee, Barefoot, Clark, Burgess, Rogers (Chair to be elected by members.) The Staff Advisory Committee (SAC) functions to facilitate communication between the staff and the departmental administration and faculty on policy and other issues, to ensure a representation of diverse views on issues, to assist in coordinating the work of units and daily operations, and to provide feedback for the performance evaluation of the Chair, departmental administration and staff. Will hold regular meetings with the Chair and Associate Chair.
18. Biological/ Instrumentation Core Facilities Smirnov*, Deiters, Melander, Ghiladi, Ison Will assess the need and feasibility of creation of shared instrumentation and/or biological core facilities for the support of research programs; Will create an inventory of the available equipment in the department / research groups that are available for shared use, and the possibility of acquiring equipment from industry or through instrumentation grants.
19. General Chemistry Task Force Warren*, Petrovich, Gunnoe, Neyhart, Brown, Banks Will assess the implementation of a placement exam for general chemistry; Will assess the number of seats/sections in service courses that could be offered in 2008-2009 with the existing resources and additional resources needed for enrollment increase; Facilitates communications among faculty teaching multiple sections of CH 101 and CH201.
20. Organic Chemistry Group Gallardo-Williams*, Sandberg, Brown Facilitates communications among faculty teaching multiple sections of Organic Chem service courses
21. NMR User Group Comins*, Lindsey, Gunnoe, Gorman, Nevzorov, Cavanagh, Sankar, Other interested faculty Facilitates communications among faculty using the NMR facility.
22. X-Ray User Group Martin*, Gunnoe, Lindsey, Boyle, Other interested faculty Facilitates communications among faculty using the X-Ray facility.
