  • 1:00 Introduction. Setting the theme for the day: Appreciation for one's place and its impact on decisions about the use of space
  • 1:05 First Case Study:
    • The Walnut Creek Project Partnership The Story of the Project: Dr. Norman Camp, co-chair of Partners for Environmental Justice
    • Reports from the Field: Students in the Centennial Campus Middle School have been working in the Walnut Creek area and will reflect the growth of their environmental awareness: Science of the wetlands, Geopolitical maps of the area, Political activism, Literature, art, and the environment
    • Next Steps: Building a Park and Building a Community: Sense of Place and Environmental Justice. Ed Milligan, co-chair of Partners for Environmental Justice
  • 2:15 Break. Refreshments. Aesthetic interlude: Music and poetry addressing environmental justice, presented by MDS 351F students
  • 2:30 Second Case Study
    • The Hillsborough Street Project Partnership The Story of the Project; Report from the Cleanup Nina Szlosberg and Smedes York
    • Next Steps: Use of Space: What One Person Can Do
  • 3:30 Break. Refreshments. Aesthetic interlude: Music and poetry addressing place, presented by MDS 351F students
  • 3:45 Advice from the audience. Breakout groups will address the question, Given your sense of place, what advice would you give to each of the two partnerships? Leaders and reporters will be students in MDS 201, "Environmental Ethics"
