The Walnut Creek wetland begins east of Hammond Road. Run-off problems in the section between Hammond Road and Garner Road have been worse since Hammond Road was raised as a part of the I-440 beltline construction. Note the development that encroaches this area of the wetland. |

This wetland area is located only two miles south of Civic Center in downtown Raleigh. Raleigh has the opportunity to restore and preserve the wetland. Plans have been developed for an Urban Wetland Eduction Park that would serve the community, workers in downtown Raleigh, and schools. |
