"microburning"
Do you have experience with very small Rx fires (1-5 acres or even smaller). For what purposes? did you use techniques different than for larger burns? any special challenges or opportunities with such small scale burning?

We've done some micro-burning at Eglin primarily for various research projects. I remember a duff research burn that was 10m x 10m. The only other microburns we've done are small blackline operations to setup larger burn units. For the most part, we use the same operational techniques regardless of unit size. Small units can be just as complex as large units and sometimes deceptively so. The challenge is not becoming complacent just because "its only a few acres".

Thanks for the info on Eglin. Your "complacency" challenge is well taken. ALL big fires always started as a very small one. We have a scientist interested in summarizing techniques and uses for very small Rx fires, IF they are different from other Rx fires. Maybe we will hear from some others before deciding on moving forward.
