Forest Fire Health Dangers
I live in Chiang Mai a beautiful city in Northern Thailand. Every winter when it hasn't rained for 3 months the local farmers will burn their paddy fields. The locals also take to burning the forests because at this time a rare mushroom can be found. For 2 months we have to endure PM-10 counts close to 200. Air visibility can be 100m. Youc an smell the smoke in the air. We all argue about what is the best respirator to protect ourselves. Does anyone have advice. I will have to wear the thing on a motorbike so a World War 2 size respirator isn't gong to work. Also I have a newborn baby how much damage is this going to do his lungs? Will an air filter at home help?
