1999 ASCFG Dried Cut Flower of the Year

The 1999 Dried Cut Flower of the Year is Gomphrena 'Qis Carmine' from Kieft Seeds Holland. Gomphrenas are well known as a work horse of the dried cut flower business. 'Carmine' is a new color in the species Gomphrena haageana, complimenting the already popular red and orange colors. Gomphrena 'Carmine' is exceptionally productive with dark leaves, long stems (10-18 inches), and large flower heads. Gomphrena is heat tolerant and should be planted after soil has warmed. Regular harvests, as often as every two weeks, will maximize production all season long.
