Calendula officinalis 'Black Centered Golden Princess'
Trial: Annual
Years Trialed: 1998
Good Qualities:
Good color (4); Stems length (3); Stems strong (3); This is one of the nicest calendulas I've grown; Flowers are smaller than others; Black center is nice; Showy, floriferous; Some double flowers; Larger heads than the orange; Nice in bouquets; Size of flower; Bright, multi-petalled flowers ~6-8cm.
Problems:
While calendulas are nice, they are small and selling them is always difficult; Hot summer made blooms shrink by mid-July; Didn't last well in field B even with plenty of water; Leafhoppers; Can't get customers to buy calendula B too common a garden plant around here; Does not last as cut flower; 42% germination
