(Graduated: 2002)

After graduation, I worked as a textile designer for Microfibres in Winston Salem for a year before heading off to the San Francisco Bay Area where I worked for two different apparel companies, creating textile designs for women’s apparel. My first job in California was at Karen Neuburger, where I created designs for sleepwear. Then I worked for Mervyns, a local department store. After living in California for four years, I decided to move back to NC with my husband and return to NC State’s College of Design to pursue a Masters in Art and Design, focusing my textile design experience on apparel design. I enjoy working with printed textiles and have been exploring a wide variety of surface design techniques while honing my pattern making and sewing skills.

(Graduated: 2009)

Through my studies as an Anni Albers scholar I became fully prepared for the multidisciplinary field of textiles. While following my instincts for designing with cloth and appreciation for the logistical aspect of how to produce a fashion event, I teamed with NC State’s Art to Wear fashion show as a team member, designer, co-director, and director. I also studied clothing construction and photography in Hawaii through the National Student Exchange Program and traveled to Italy for a Summer Abroad focusing on fashion merchandising. Another summer I lived in NYC and apprenticed with fashion designers, Anna Sui and James Coviello, earning college credit. The Anni Albers Program provides a realistic approach to how you can apply your textile knowledge into the working world. After graduation I’ve enjoyed working in the theatrical arts, constructing costumes for Broadway’s Spiderman:Turn off the Dark, as well as Design Assistant for Betsey Johnson. I continue to appreciate my textile background while working towards Visual Assistant at Urban Outfitters and aspire to continue my education for an MFA at UT in costume construction.

I never took an art class before I came to design school through the Anni Albers program. Don’t let anything hold you back! My hobbies are horse-back riding, fusing glass, hanging out with my friends, dancing when I can, doing volunteer activities and I work at Coffee & Crepes in Crossroads. I am in Phi Psi, the professional textile fraternity, and Sigma Tau Sigma, an honors textile fraternity. I am a Centennial Scholar and of course an Anni Albers Scholar as well. Hopefully I will be doing a study abroad program to Florence this summer and I am looking into internships with costume companies as well as sports products companies. My interests are extremely varies and I like to explore them all.

(Graduated: 2008)

I have always had an equal love of art and science. When I discovered the Anni Albers program at NC State, I didn’t look any farther for college. Looking back as a graduate, I can say it kept me balanced: learning the technical and scientific side of things, all while getting to expand my creative vocabulary & constantly producing artwork. I recently completed a one year program at UC California Santa Cruz in scientific illustration I am now an art intern at Dinosaur National Monument in Utah. Here I am completing a dinosaur mural for their new visitor center, as well as detailed fossil specimen illustrations. I am also pursuing freelance science illustration and graphics; I have already worked on a wide range of subjects: from solar panel technology to string theory to canyon landscapes. I truly enjoy what I am doing: constantly creating as well as learning about the mysteries of the world.

(Graduated: 2011)

I have always loved fashion and the ability to express myself through art. Music has also continually played a huge part in my life. I love to sing, whether it is in front of a huge crowd or driving from place to place in my car. In addition to Anni Albers, I am involved in University Scholars, the NCSU homecoming parade, and serve as a textile peer mentor for incoming freshmen. I served as an NCSU Orientation Counselor for the summer of 2007 and plan to apply for a student assistant position for summer of 2008. I currently work at Buckle and I love my job and the personal interaction with customers. In the future I plan to apply for an internship with Buckle or possibly a fashion magazine, such as JANE or Teen Vogue. I also plan to study abroad in Prague for the Fashion and Costume design program for spring 2009, and participate in Teach for America. If everything works out, after college, I hope to open my own boutique in New York or possibly abroad.

Jenna Draughn

(Graduated: 2008)

Working with textiles allows me to explore a timeless medium which is familiar and is rich in history, yet has great possibilities for creating new and innovative beauty. The enjoyment of designing textiles comes from the love of working with my hands and the innermost desire to create beauty. For me beauty is found in touch, color, pattern, shape, and form. These are the areas in which I focus my artistic abilities, always drawing from my experiences whenever I make a design decision. By doing what I love and finding new paths and directions for my designs, I find joy in working and a passion for producing products that other people will find just as intriguing.
