I came into college with practically no idea or direction of what I wanted to do. I heard about the Anni Albers Scholars Program and transferred into it my sophomore year. I love the technicality and business aspect of textiles, but crave the creativity and expression of design. It gives my college career an overall focus of fabric and offers a wide range of knowledge that doesn’t leave me feeling like I would have only one career or specialty option after college. I am also pursuing a minor in Industrial Design. I work in the University Theatre as a technician during the school year. I studied in Prague, Czech Republic in Spring 2011. I worked in NYC for Richloom Fabrics Inc. as an intern designing woven home furniture fabrics in Summer 2011. My interests include: theatre, costuming, fashion, color theory, sculpting, fabric pattern design, beading, dying (hair and fabric), special effects makeup, fire spinning, and hooping.

As an Anni Albers Scholar I will be able to pursue my creative interests and skills in the arts as well as a more technical education in textiles. I have always enjoyed creating art of various mediums, especially drawings. I am the recipient of the Prestige Scholarship. Study abroad is one of the opportunities I am looking forward to in my upcoming years at NC State. Since the age of seven I have been a dedicated equestrian and I am now a new member of the NCSU Wolfpack Dressage Team. In my free time I enjoy reading, photography, hanging out with friends and going on adventures!

The Anni Alber program combines my love of art with my appreciation for academic learning. I want to incorporate the science aspects of textiles into my art pieces in order to create works that better meet the design requirements. When I not studying, I like to exercise, read, and make crafts. I am excited about joining the Wolfpack family of Anni Albers Scholars.

I am in the Anni Albers program because I love to design clothes and I really enjoy working with fabrics while using fine arts skills. Some of my hobbies include tennis, drawing, soccer, and painting. I am very interested in the study abroad programs and hope to go to Prague for a semester during junior year.

I have loved to sew since my grandmother taught me as a little kid. I began quilting and later moved on to making clothes and creating leather purses. My designs tend to have very southern roots, but there is also a bit of vintage bohemian woven in. My art is always changing, and I love to work with different materials. I was fortunate two summers ago to work as an intern at a furnace where I learned to pour and create metal sculpture. I have also dappled in woodworking and jewelry making. I feel that the Anni Albers Scholars program will allow to me to carry on family traditions while still making a successful career out of fiber arts. Anni Albers has been a wonderful experience so far, and I am honored to be part of the program.

I was so excited to become a part of the Anni Albers Program because it gave me the opportunity to combine my love of art with the field of textiles. From a young age I have always loved to draw, sew, and do anything creative. It is so exciting that now I have to opportunity to study and learn so much more about my interests in college. I would love to study abroad and work with fabric or fashion design in the future.

I am an Anni Albers Scholar because I find joy in creating objects with fibers, yarns, and fabrics, as well as in understanding the technical characteristics of these materials. I am interested in the visual arts, classical ballet, theatre, and literature. I love to knit, sew, read, dance, and travel. Here at NCSU, I enjoy being a part of the Fiber, Apparel, Art + Design club and Campus Crusade for Christ, as well as volunteering for different events around campus. I hope to study abroad in Prague within the next few years.

I was introduced to the program during my tour of NC State and it seemed to be the perfect fit for me. I love art and have always wanted to be able to use it in textiles, either for interior spaces or clothing design. I would like to study abroad in Vienna, Austria. I visited there this past summer and fell in love! My dream job would be to design winter wear and boards for Burton Snowboarding Company. In my free time I love to do anything involving the outdoors, animals, going to the lake and of course, art!

I love to design clothing; my favorite garments to design are women’s evening and formal wear. I enjoy working with my hands and have dappled in almost all craft areas. My favorite subjects are Calculus and Physics. I use math and science to enhance my designs. Something interesting about me is I have an identical twin sister who is an Art and Design major.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved art. Drawing, painting, sidewalk chalk, I loved it all. Last year, one of my paintings won an American Visions Award through the Scholastics Art and Writing Competition. Music has always been an important part of my life, be it piano, choral, or musical theater. I love to travel, and hope to one day study abroad in either Italy or Prague. This year I will be helping out with the Art to Wear show. I have received the following scholarships; Prestige Scholarship, Provost Scholarship, John Tillery Scholarship, Carteret County Distinguished Young Woman Scholarship, and the Rotary Scholarship. I have also received the following awards; American Visions Award and the DAR Good Citizen Award.
