Another shot

When Jason Dail (BEDA 2008) was laid off in 2009 from his architecture job due to the bad economy, rather than sulk he ramped up his longtime hobby. Though he has only been shooting weddings professionally for a little more than a year, Dail has fallen in love with this unique genre he describes as “theatrical.… Everything is rather surreal on a wedding day and everything from decor to emotions are expressed to the max. My interest is much more focused on those extreme qualities in the people and places present at a wedding rather than the ceremonial qualities.” Dail’s new company, Jason Dail Photography in Raleigh, recently received a “Bride’s Choice award  for 2010.” The annual awards, given by the WeddingWire Network, recognize excellence in quality and service within the wedding industry, as determined by reviews and surveys of over 500,000 newlyweds. The clients who appreciate his approach are attuned to every subtlety in their photographs. Says Dail: “It’s actually quite interesting that in this digital age, my most sought after photos are shot with film and scanned to digital.” Digital technology still comes in handy: On the way to a wedding reception, Dail and an assistant load several photos onto an iPad and loop a slideshow for the guests.
