Faculty Win for Engagement
Professor of Architecture Georgia Bizios
Georgia Bizios and Celen Pasalar were each awarded the Opal Mann Green Award for Engagement and Scholarship, NC State University, Spring, 2010—Bizios for her work to promote affordable housing options and Pasalar for her efforts to help convert the DuBois School in Raleigh to a community center. Pasalar’s plan for the center also won Second Place in the 2009 Annual Symposium of University Economic Development Associations. Nominated as NC State University’s entry, Pasalar’s was the only design college entrant to make the finals nationally.
International Honors
Dean Marvin J. Malecha, FAIA, was named an Honorary Member of the Australian Institute of Architects, the National Chinese Institute of Architects of Taiwan, the Japanese Institute of Architects, and the Royal Institute of Architects of Canada, for service to the profession internationally.
Faculty Appointments
Department Head of Landscape Architecture Gene Bressler
Gene Bressler, head of the Landscape Architecture Department, was appointed to the NC Board of Landscape Architects by Governor Bev Perdue. He will serve a four-year term.
Santiago Piedrafita, associate professor and Head of the Graphic Design and Industrial Design Department, was appointed to the Board of the AIGA, the professional association for design.
