Redfield directs documentary film “The Banks of Smithfield”


Wendy Redfield, associate professor of architecture in the College of Design has directed and produced a short-form documentary film titled “The Banks of Smithfield.” The film was featured in a public screening Sunday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m. at the Neuse Little Theatre in Smithfield, NC., and will be presented again on Friday, February 25 at 7:00pm at Duke University’s Richard White Theater. The film examines issues of preservation and cultural memory by focusing on the importance of historic bank buildings to small NC towns. The film features interviews with College of Design Professors Paul Tesar and Kristen Schaffer. It will be shown with six other short films exploring different aspects of the town (each approximately 10 minutes in length). This screening is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception and discussion with the film-makers.
