Four students selected as finalists for chair competition

Students from ID 512 spent the semester learning about materials and processes for producing chairs as a final product. Director of Materials Lab and Industrial Design faculty member Chris Jordan led the course which culminated in four students selected as finalists in “Sitting on the Edge” chair design and fabrication competition organized by Appalachian State University and the NC furniture industry.

Architecture students Cory Baughman, Dane Thompson and Industrial Design students Mary Elizabeth Miller and Tanuja Patwardhan are in the running for a $6,000 cash prize to be awarded on Thursday, April 28, 2011.

The chairs will be exhibited at the Turchin Center for Visual Arts in Boone, NC until May 27.
