Rand speaks on “Life-Cycle Assessment: How Masonry Stacks Up”
Professor of Architecture Patrick Rand delivered an invited presentation Life-Cycle Assessment: How Masonry Stacks Up, in a plenary session at the Masonry Society’s annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas on November 12.
The presentation reviewed AIA 2030 goals regarding Life-Cycle Assessment and applied those principles to the analysis of embodied energy and embodied carbon of exterior wall materials. The academic buildings on the NC State University campus were analyzed to inventory their energy and carbon impact. Initial energy and carbon investments were calculated, as were the repair and maintenance processes employed to maintain buildings.
