Schaffer presents at international conference in Hamburg


Associate Professor of Architecture Kristen Schaffer, Ph.D. returned from an invited conference presentation Urbanization to Modernism: Formation of Metropolitan Harbour and Commercial Districts in Hamburg, Germany held October 13-14. The conference was part of Hamburg’s preparation for nominating the city’s early warehouse and office district for inclusion in UNESCO’s World Heritage list.

The conference papers will become a part of the official submission to UNESCO. The international conference was organized by ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) Germany and the Hamburg Ministry of Culture, Department for Heritage Preservation in cooperation with HafenCity University and the Sutor Foundation.

Dr. Schaffer spoke on the topic of the early tall office building in Chicago as part of the The Hamburg office building in (inter-)national comparison session.
