Iconathon 2012 on February 25

The Noun Project is proud to introduce the first Iconathon of 2012!  Sponsored by Cree, Inc., one of the world’s largest manufacturers of energy-efficient LEDs and LED lights, this Iconathon will focus on creating new public domain symbols for Energy Efficiency and the LED light bulb.

This is your opportunity to help create graphic symbols and icons that can be used to easily communicate universally recognized concepts in Energy Efficiency. Graphic Designers and Artists are encouraged to sign up and put their skills to use to help create symbols needed in civic design. However, you do not need to know how to design or draw to participate and provide valuable input.  For more information, please visit Lighting the LED Revolution website.

The collection of approximately 20 Energy Efficiency symbols created during the Iconathon will be made available to the public through The Noun Project’s free library of downloadable symbols. See examples of symbols created at previous Iconathons.

The Iconathon will begin with insightful presentations on Energy Efficiency and LED lighting, followed by a presentation on User Comprehension & Symbol Design by Edward Boatman, Co-Founder and Creative Director of The Noun Project.  After a quick lunch we’ll host design charrettes where designers, students, artists, environmentalists, and anyone who is passionate about civic design will brainstorm and sketch symbols that visually represent concepts frequently needed for Energy Efficiency.

Expect to polish your creative skills and meet some amazing people!
