Graphic Design Student Wins Design Award
Bachelor of Graphic Design student Kirsten Southwell won first place in the Design Ignites Change award for her GD400 (Design for Relief and Aid) class project on Design Thinking in Rural North Carolina.
Southwell credits her professor Megan Hall and teaching assistant Rachael Huston to her success saying, “[Megan] and [Rachael] have taught us the social impact that design can have. The brilliant structure of the class and their constant encouragement made all of our projects fantastic, not just mine.”

Hammon Selected as Chapter Leader for National Student Organization

Alumni Selected to Show at Charleston Fashion Week
Alumna Ashley Newsome’s (BAD 2005) new eco-fashion line by Haberdashery will be showing at the 2012 Charleston Fashion Week, March 20-24.
Newsome has been working on her collection since December and will be a cross between “Oscar Wilde meets the Maharaja at the World’s Fair.”
The Haberdashery Eco Collection is inspired by 1890′s fashion – leg of mutton sleeves, bustled overcoats, riding breeches, epaulets, collars, maxi skirts, and capes. The menswear builds from elegant uniforms and features heavy use of collaring.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — The Freelon Group is pleased to announce that Adam Brakenbury, AIA has recently passed the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) and is now a licensed architect. The ARE assesses candidates for their knowledge, skills, and ability to provide the various services required in the practice of architecture.
Adam received his Master of Architecture from North Carolina State University and his Bachelor of English from College of Charleston. Adam is currently part of the design team for the Gregg Museum located at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. Adam has worked on the recently completed School of Education and Psychology at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabet City, NC and The General Academic Classroom at NC A&T State University in Greensboro, NC.
The Freelon Group is a 50-person, award-winning architectural firm founded by Philip G. Freelon, FAIA (Fellow, American Institute of Architects) in 1990. The firm’s design portfolio center on Higher Education, Science/Technology, Museum, Libraries, and Cultural Center projects.
