Scotford awarded two research grants

Professor of Graphic Design Martha Scotford has recently been awarded two research grants for her work on Ernst Reichl, an award-winning German-born American book designer in the 1930s to 1970s. From the Bibliographic Society of America she received the Reese Fellowship for American Bibliography and the History of the Book in the Americas. And she received a Columbia University Libraries Research Award, where she is working in the collection of the Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Her research on Reichl will result in an exhibition at the RBM Library in the summer of 2013.


Wiley & Son’s publishes fourth edition of Clark’s architectural book

Professor of Architecture Roger Clark had the Fourth Edition of Precedents in Architecture: Analytic Diagrams, Formative Ideas, and Partis by Roger H. Clark and Michael Pause published by John Wiley  & Sons in February 2012.

A Taiwanese publisher also purchased the rights to translate and publish the fourth edition in Orthodox Chinese.

Analysis of Precedent was first published as Volume 28 of The Student Publication in 1979. It was later published by Van Nostrand Reinhold as Precedents in Architecture in 1985 and was translated to Spanish, Japanese and Korean. In 1997, the publication received the AIA International Book Award.

Bostic awarded scholarship at Arrowmont School

Master of Art + Design student Megan Bostic has been awarded a scholarship to study encaustic at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in the summer of 2012.  The award covers all expenses and is made possible by a grant from the Windgate Charitable Foundation.

Bostic was also chosen as a finalist in the NC State University Poetry contest for her entry “If It’s A Boy.” http://english.chass.ncsu.edu/creativewriting/poetry_contest.php


Sign Up for Green Career Coaching for NCSU Earth Day

Director of the Downtown Design Studio Dr. Traci Rose Rider and Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture Andy Fox will be a part of NCSU’s Earth Day Green Career Coaches representing the College of Design in careers related to green careers. The sessions are in 15 minute increments and people can sign up a head of time to secure a spot.

Schlosser chosen as 2012 student merit award winner

Four Industrial Design students were selected to present for a chance to represent NCSU in the Southern IDSA Conference. Amy Schlosser, Lauren Schaubach, Greg Hayter and Drew Brisley presented their concepts on April  3, 2012 with a panel of judges including Vince Gardner, Brian Westbrook and Banks Talley.


Schlosser was chosen to represent the college with her presentation of Plate Pet: a dinosaur shaped food dish designed to increase the diet of 3-5 year olds, Solution: a combination of the contact solution bottle and the contact lens case that initiates and promotes the proper care of contact lenses,  , Troika: a toy designed to grow with the user with re-arrangeable blocks and Remind: a wearable scheduling device for adults with autism who want to live more independently.
