Art2Wear 2012 transforms and inspires

Art2Wear 2012 included 17 designers with a vision to inspire and encourage audience members to think about clothing in a different way. This year’s MC included Kornelius Bascombe who invigorated the crowd as DJ Tim Gunter laid down some beats during the pre-show and throughout the show.

The pre-show started with a selection of work produced in a variety of classes from the College of Design and the College of Textiles including the First-Year Experience, Fashion Product Design, Draping 311 and Prague Institute’s Fashion and Costume Design Studio based on characters from the 19th century Czech poet Karl Jaromir Erben’s frightening  fairy tales and poetry.

The show started off dramatically with Sophomore Sarah Cannon’s collection “Remémorer la Silhouette” with models illuminated behind a canvas to create an awe inspiring silhouette. The show continued with crowd pleasing moments like Sophomore Lauren Caddick’s homage to Alfred Hitchcock and ended with a stunning wax dress and collection from Senior Veronica Tibbitts which was based on “rituals” and explored rites of passage like coming of age, rituals, sacrifice, love, responsibility, and parentage.
