2012 Blockfest and Student Design Competition winners
The graduate and undergraduate students in Assistant Professor of Architecture Dana K. Gulling’s ARC232: Structures and Materials course participated in the NCSU College of Design’s and Carolinas Concrete Masonry Association’s (CCMA) Blockfest and Student Design Competition on Saturday, April 21, 2012. In teams of four, students participated in one of two categories. The teams either designed a new concrete masonry unit or they designed and constructed a dry-stacked, masonry wall.
The event was sponsored by Carolinas Concrete Masonry Association (CCMA), Johnson Concrete Company, and Adams Products/Oldcastle.
The competition jury included Elizabeth KoleppMayer, architect with BBH Design; Darrell Hinshaw, mason contractor at Stonemakers by Popes Mansonry; Brandon Moore, landscape architect with The Site Group; and Frank Werner, manufacturing representative with Adams Products. The jurors awarded prizes based on the use of modular coordination, innovation, and technical proficiency, and craftsmanship.
