Megan Barrett receives coveted Celia Moh Scholarship

May 21, 2012, High Point, NC— Megan Barrett, a student at North Carolina State University, has been selected to receive a Celia Moh Scholarship for the upcoming academic year. This extensive scholarship will pay for full tuition, room, board, books, and fees.

Barrett, along with five other students around the country attending universities with home furnishings programs, was notified of her selection late last month. She is a rising senior at NC State, majoring in Industrial Design.

The Celia Moh Scholarship was established in October 2001 by furniture industry entrepreneur Laurence Moh to honor his wife, Celia. The scholarship program, funded by Mr. Moh’s initial gift of $3 million, was established to provide full tuition scholarships for students whose academic endeavors would logically lead to careers in the home furnishings industry.

The application process requires candidates to complete an extensive questionnaire, write a personal essay, obtain instructors’ recommendations, and provide a college transcript illustrating exceptional academic achievement. A scholarship committee comprised of notable home furnishings industry executives selected Barrett and the other students. The six scholarship recipients join three returning students selected as Celia Moh scholars in previous years. Seventy-three full scholarships have been awarded in the program’s eleven-year existence.

While at NC State, Barrett has been on the Dean’s List since 2009, is active with the student chapter of the Industrial Designers Society of America, and has served as a student government senator. She enjoys coaching and playing volleyball and cooking. Her mother is Bonnie Barrett of Raleigh, NC.
