About the College of Design
The College of Design prepares designers who, in the broadest sense, shape the world.
Design education is more than an attempt to teach a set of technical skills. The environment – including the spaces in which people live and work, the products they consume, and the messages they receive – has a powerful impact on how humans function in a society. Good design requires attention and sensitivity to social, economic, political, cultural and behavioral issues. The aim of all curricula in the College of Design is to develop the designer’s perception, knowledge, skills and problem-solving abilities.
The College of Design offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate study in architecture, landscape architecture, art + design, graphic design and industrial design through several degree programs, including the Ph.D. in Design. The college employs a selective admissions process that ensures a highly motivated and diverse design community. As a result, entering design students consistently rank at the top of academic achievement at the University, and their graduation rate is the highest at NC State.
What is DESIGNLIFE?
DESIGNLIFE is an extension of the College of Design’s mission to integrate practical, ethical, and aesthetic thought and action to enhance the meaning and quality of life through the creation of knowledge informing the critical study of artifacts and places.
DESIGNLIFE connects the Design community at NC State and around the world with the alumni, faculty, and students of the College of Design.
Want to submit an article, idea, project, event or story?
Contact us at design@ncsu.edu. We would love to hear ideas for stories and what you would like to see on DESIGNLIFE.
Have an amazing design project you’d like to highlight for our design community?
The College of Design invites “guest blogger” post submissions for publication on DESIGNLIFE from college faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends.
If you have an idea for a post that you think our audience would find interesting, please submit your idea via email to design@ncsu.edu. If you have already written an unpublished post, please paste it or attach it to the email. Put “GUEST BLOG POST IDEA” in the subject line. If you have already blogged and are simply suggesting a reprinting of your post, include a link to the post in your email and indicate who is authorized to provide reprinting permission.
Posts can be most any length, though we reserve the right to shorten and/or edit the post for clarity. We do insist that posts include one or more high quality images. (Note: Most any size image will do for embedding within a post, but to be featured at the top of the DESIGNLIFE home page, images must be at least 940 pixels wide and 440 pixels high at 72 dpi resolution. To be included as a second-tier feature, the image size should be 226 pixels wide × 300 pixels high.)
