The College of Design operates its own print accounting system called DesignPRINT. We use DesignPRINT servers to provide more reliable printing services for our users. The University’s WolfPrint service works well for many, but our unique needs within the College of Design caused problems with WolfPrint. The accounting software used for DesignPRINT is called PaperCut NG. You will see references to both DesignPRINT and PaperCut NG on our web site.
DesignPRINT is installed on all College of Design IT Lab and Cluster Macintosh and Windows computers. Users can also add these printers to their own computers by using the instructions below. Please read this page before installing printers on your own computer.
Print Costs:
Black and White laser prints up to 8.5″ x 14″ are 6 cents per page. Larger sizes up to 11.7″ x 17.7″ are 12 cents per page. (Two-sided prints are charged as two pages.)

We have a variety of printers available. Please see the page on Capabilities of DesignPRINT printers.
Please read the Printing 101 handout for tips and information on efficient printing.
DesignPRINT quota is required to use printers from any College of Design IT Lab or Departmental Cluster computer—Mac and Windows. You must have a positive balance in DesignPRINT quota in order to print.
DesignPRINT quota is separate from the University WolfPrint quota. DesignPRINT only works in Brooks, Kamphoefner, and Leazar Halls and the Downtown Design Studio. Other public lab printers at the University use the WolfPrint service. Users will need to buy WolfPrint quota at http://print.ncsu.edu in order to use printers outside of the College of Design. Log in there using your Unity ID and password. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
Users may purchase DesignPRINT quota at http://des-print.sod.ncsu.edu/ using a credit card. Log in there using your Unity ID and password. Click on Add Credit on the left column and fill in the forms provided. Quota will be added immediately after your credit card transaction is approved, so you can use that quota right away. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are accepted.
Users may request a quota transfer between the College of Design’s DesignPRINT system and the University’s WolfPrint system by clicking here. Quota transfers do not happen immediately. Please plan ahead.
If your DesignPRINT job(s) did not print and/or you wish to dispute a charge, go to http://des-print.sod.ncsu.edu/. Log in there using your Unity ID and password. Select Recent Print Jobs, and identify those job(s) by the the Date, Time and Cost shown. On the right end of each job listing is a link to request a refund. Click on that and fill out the brief form that follows. Users can see complete details of each print job at http://des-print.sod.ncsu.edu/.
Users are encouraged to use PCClient software, which is part of PaperCut NG. PCClient communicates with the DesignPRINT servers to provide users with current information about their DesignPRINT accounts. PCClient is installed on all College of Design IT Lab and Cluster computers. Users can download the PCClient software from ClassStore in the folder: Information Technology\Public\PCClient Installers. Both Macintosh and Windows versions are available. Instructions for connecting to ClassStore are available from the right side of this page.
Some Important Notes:
• You must have a positive balance in DesignPRINT quota in order to print.
• DesignPRINT will only work on IT Lab and Cluster printers within the College of Design-Brooks, Kamphoefner, Leazar Halls and the Downtown Design Studio. Public printers in other parts of NCSU use the University’s WolfPrint system. You may wish to keep some quota in both systems.
• DesignPRINT printers are installed on IT Lab and Cluster computers and are ready to use. Instructions for adding printers to your own computer are available from the right of this page.
• You should continue to prepare your print jobs for efficient printing by keeping file sizes and image resolution low. Take a look at the Printing 101 Handout for tips on efficient printing.
To install DesignPRINT printers on your Macintosh or Windows computer, please see the appropriate instructions in the navigation list to the right of this page.
If you have trouble, please contact the College of Design IT staff in Brooks 202-204 for help. If you have a laptop you need help with, bring it with you. You can also send an email to design_help@ncsu.edu with specific information about your problem.
