Research

The Feed Mill Education Unit supplies research feed to the chicken, turkey, swine, and small ruminant units located adjacent to the feed mill at the University Field Laboratories.  The faculty and staff in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University are interested in opportunities to conduct collaborative research projects with the allied feed industry, animal producers, and other universities.  The feed mill has the ability to manufacture precision research feed in batches ranging from 50 to 4,000 pounds in one of four mixers (100 pounds, 500 pounds, 1,000 pounds, or 4,000 pounds).  There are 1-ton and 10-ton/hour pelleting and fat-coating systems that allow the feed mill to manufacture pelleted feed for small experiments and large field studies.  Mash feed can be produced with grain ground through either a hammermill or roller mill. Feed samples and manufacturing data can be collected throughout the manufacturing process.  For further information on conducting research projects at the NCSU Feed Mill Education Unit on in any of the animal units contact charles_stark@ncsu.edu or 919-515-5399.
