Welcome to IPARC!

Investigating Places for Active Recreation in Communities (IPARC) is a research initiative (laboratory) sponsored by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management in the College of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University.

"ACTIVE RECREATION COUNTS” Summit

April 3, 2008, McKimmon Center, NCSU Campus, Raleigh

We can count the number of people who participate in programs and their satisfaction, but how do we know that people are more physically active as a result of active recreation efforts in communities? How do active recreation providers (Parks and Recreation, Schools, Not-for-Profit Organizations, Faith-Based Organizations, Public Health Services plus others) know that they make a difference in the health of citizens?

The objectives of the “Active Recreation Counts” Summit are to:

  • Challenge attendees to gather evidence of the effectiveness of ACTIVE RECREATION programs, areas, and facilities in communities
  • Share ideas about existing ACTIVE RECREATION programs and how they are assessed
  • Provide information to facilitate assessment, evaluation, and measurement of ACTIVE RECREATION opportunities
  • Encourage / stimulate networking among attendees interested in ACTIVE RECREATION evaluation and research
