Inserting Anchors

Insert an Anchor (Link in our same file)

Move your cursor back to the very top of the document. We are going to create a link within our own file so that when a viewer reaches the bottom of our document they can quickly return to the top of the page with the click of the mouse. Click the Insert Anchor button and on the menu type the word top to replace the word anchor.

Now move your cursor down to the bottom of your document , type the word "Top,"
highlight the word, then click the Link Editor button.

In the Link window, type: #top. Click the preview mode button and click your link to see if it works.

Create a Link to Another Document Within our Site (Local link)

Before you can link to another document you will first need to create a new one in Claris Home Page and save it to your folder. Create a short sample resume and save it under the name, resume.html. Now open your original document, index.html. At the bottom of your last text type "View my Resume," Highlight the words. Click the Link editor button. Type in the name of the file in the URL space (resume.html). In preview mode click the link to see if it works. Now you will need to create a link on the resume page that will take you back to the home page (index.html). Do that now.

Create a Link to another Web Site Outside of our Site (External link)

If you are not at the home page return to that now. To create a link to another web site you will have to have the URL of that site. Browse the web to find a site that relates to something you included in your paragraph (hobbies, tv shows, etc.) After you have found the site you may highlight the URL in the web browser location or write it down. On your home page you can highlight the word that will take the viewer to this site when clicked or type something like, "My Favorite Web Site," and write the site name. Highlight the words, click the Link editor, and paste in the URL or type it. Save your document again. Under the file menu choose Save. Try out your link. (Of course, you must be connected to the internet for this link to work.)

Link to an Email Address

Return to your document, resume.html. Of course, if someone reads your resume you want them to be able to get in touch with you. At the bottom of the document type your email address. Highlight the address, click the Links editor, and type: mailto:userName@host. Include your own information for username and host. When a viewer clicks this link, a email program will open and automatically include your address as sendee. They will only need to type their message and send.
