Representatives from each SWAT Team met with MIDTech to talk
about their work.
Questions included:
I'm on the SWAT Team because I love weather and I really like to work with computers.
I like to work on the website and work with the weather because I just like to get involved with computers. Because my dad is, and I like to understand all of the terms that he talks about. I like to listen to adult conversations.
I am on the SWAT Team Central and what we do is we go around "maintenancing" computers and if we don't go around doing that the computers will break down a lot here and they won't work as good and the school will have to buy more. And we don't have the money.
I think what we do is important because I'm on the internet researchers and we help teachers find information to teach their classes what they are studying. Without us the teachers would have to take all of their time to find the information themselves.
I'm in computer buddies and if we didn't have computer buddies, the younger students wouldn't learn how to use the computers and they would be kind of lost in fifth grade or the higher grades.
I think it is pretty much important for our future to have more experience with computers programs, so whenever we get a job or something we might have to go up against something, we might not have known if we hadn't done this.
I think in the future we are just going to use computers most of the time.
Computers are changing our schools because we have better resources on computers than at schools and we can also do weather and lots of things like that right off the computer.
Computers are basically becoming the teachers in our schools, because instead of sitting through a whole lesson on nouns, we can just load a computer program and learn about nouns ourselves.
I think computers are changing our world because our world is going faster we can send information faster over the web.
I think computers are changing our world because more people can learn faster.
I think more people next year, like the third graders next year, will want to do this. Then next year we'll be out there teaching them how to do it and so soon when everybody gets into middle school they will know how to use the computers.
I really hope in the middle school that I can be on the SWAT Team again because this is really fun.
I think that at the rate that computers are changing and the quality is going up and just price and whatever -- that in ten years kids will bring laptops to school instead of notebooks and knapsacks.
I like to learn team skills and to work together.
I think I have changed because now I can speak before large groups of people without getting stage fright.
Learning about computers even makes me want to teach others. And then they teach me back and it's really, really fun.
Because I always learn new information from someone that I didn't think would know much about computers and they really do.
MT: And does it feel good?
Rachel: Yes, it does.
MT:Why?
Rachel: Because I just know that I am helping them and they are helping me and it feels nice. And it is just really, really nice.
I think that I have changed and I am more responsible because I know that my team needs me.
I think that I have become a little more dependent on computers for a lot of resources and things, and I know now more them than I ever did.
I have changed because I think I have become more responsible because I have to get research to teachers and talk with them about getting the research.
I think I have changed because I feel more mature from being an internet researcher -- I have had to use the computer a whole lot. And I have gotten more familiar with it and everything. And I just feel good.
