UNIT D:TOOLING DESIGN, MACHINES, AND AUTOMATION IN MANUFACTURING
COMPETENCY: 007.00: Operate cutting, forming, and assembly tools and machines to process materials.
OBJECTIVE:007.05: Apply principles of fluid power to manufacturing processes.

A.   Characteristics of Fluids

         I. Liquids and gas are fluid- when pressure is applied to a confined liquid, force is transmitted in all directions
            (Pascal's Law

Pascals Law, first recognized by the French scientist Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), says that when pressure is applied to an enclosed fluid, the pressure is transmitted undiminished to every point of the fluid and to the walls of the container.
         2. Confined liquid can be used to gain mechanical advantange by multiplying force

         3. Pneumatic and hydraulic systems can be used to control power and motion

B.   Pneumatic Systems

          1. Components

a. Compressor to create force or pressure.
b. Cylinders to apply pressure
c. Valves and regulators to control force
2. Discuss common applications
