Deadline Approaching for Health Plan Enrollment

The State Health Plan's annual enrollment period is coming to an close, meaning university employees have until Friday, March 28 to make changes to their insurance coverage level, add or drop dependents or terminate their health insurance coverage.

Changes made during the annual enrollment period will go into effect July 1. Elections made that result in a premium rate change will begin with the June paycheck. Employees who do not wish to make any changes do not need to take any action.

Employees currently participating in the indemnity plan must switch to one of the PPO plans because the indemnity plan terminates on June 30. Those who do not choose a PPO option will automatically be enrolled in the SmartChoice PPO Standard Plan.

Information Meeting Set for Bridges Professional Development Program

An informational meeting about the Bridges: Academic Leadership for Women professional development program will be held Thursday, April 3, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Green Room of Talley Student Center.

Bridges is an intensive professional development program for women in higher education who seek to gain or strengthen their academic leadership capabilities. It is designed to help women identify, understand and move into leadership roles in the academy. At the Bridges informational meeting, graduates of NC State's  program  will be present to discuss this unique professional development program. Women faculty members and senior administrative staff are eligible to apply for admission.

Construction Cancels CVM Open House

The annual College of Veterinary Medicine Open House will not be held this spring due to construction of the 110,000-square-foot Randall B. Terry, Jr. Companion Animal Veterinary Medical Center on the Centennial Biomedical Campus. Read more.

DELTA Offering Summer Technology Teaching Institute for Faculty

Faculty members interested in learning new ways to support and supplement their teaching using Web-based tools and other technology resources should consider applying to the annual Teaching and Learning with Technology Summer Institute for Faculty being offered through Distance Education & Learning Technology Applications (DELTA).

Now in its 10th year, the free institute is scheduled for May 12 to 16. Acceptance to the institute is competitive, and interested faculty must apply by April 7. Faculty who are accepted into the program will participate in intensive workshops, lunchtime seminars and lab sessions during the course of the week, and must complete some online work and reading prior to the institute. Each participant will also receive more than $300 worth of software licenses and materials.

Nominations Sought for University Advising Awards

Nominations are currently being sought for the 2008 university advising awards, which recognize the accomplishments and commitment of individuals dedicated to helping students succeed through academic advising. Individuals may be nominated in four categories: the Barbara Soloman award; new advisor; faculty advisor; and advising administrator.

Nominations are due no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, April 4, and should be directed to Erin Robinson, OASIS, Campus Box 7577 or by e-mail at erin_robinson@ncsu.edu. University advising awards will be presented on Thursday, May 1, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Talley Student Center's Walnut Room. College of Engineering to Sponsor Open House

The College of Engineering will hold an open house on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All engineering departments on main campus and Centennial Campus will participate with tours, displays and information sessions for middle school students, prospective NC State students, admitted NC State students, parents and guests. Buses will run continuously between the two campuses.

Registration is available online. Main campus parking will be in the Cates Avenue/Coliseum parking deck. Centennial Campus parking will be in the Partners Way parking deck. 'Potters of Jugtown' Exhibit Opening at Gregg Museum

A new pottery exhibition titled "Pamela and Vernon Owens: Potters of Jugtown" opens at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design on Thursday, March 27, and runs through July 27.
