Austin Honored for Alcohol, Drug Prevention Work
Chris Austin, assistant director of health promotion for Student Health Services, was named the 2007-08 Outstanding AOD (alcohol & other drugs) Professional by Outside the Classroom. The award recognizes the exceptional performance of an individual who has demonstrated continued commitment to the field of alcohol and other drug prevention in the university setting.
Austin was selected based on the impact he has had on student life through innovative approaches to alcohol prevention, and sustained collaborative relationships across campus to create a healthier, safer campus. Outside the Classroom is a private company that was founded to address public health issues affecting education, corporate and government institutions. Read more.
NC State Librarian Named One of Profession's Top 'Movers & Shakers'
Hilary Davis, NCSU Libraries' Collection Manager of Physical Sciences, Engineering, and Data Analysis, has been named one of the year's top "Movers & Shakers" by the trade publication Library Journal. She was recognized by the magazine as one of the "people shaping the future of libraries" primarily for her sophisticated use of analytics in adapting collections to meet researchers' needs. Hoon Selected for ALA Copyright Award
Peggy Hoon, special assistant to the provost for copyright, has been awarded the "L. Ray Patterson Copyright Award: In Support of Users' Rights" by the American Library Association's (ALA) Office of Information Technology Policy Copyright Committee. The award recognizes the contributions of an individual or group that pursues and supports the Constitutional purpose of the U.S. copyright law, fair use, and the public domain. Hoon will receive the award during the ALA's annual conference in Anaheim, Calif., on June 30.
Wust Becomes Sixth Librarian to Receive Digital Library Forum Fellowship
Markus Wust, NCSU Libraries' Digital Collections and Preservation Librarian, has been awarded a Digital Library Federation (DLF) Forum Fellowship for Librarians New to the Profession. He will receive a stipend of up to $1,000 to help defray the costs of attending the DLF Spring Forum 2008, scheduled from April 28-30 in Minneapolis, Minn. Only five information professionals are selected each year for the fellowship, yet this is the sixth consecutive year that an NCSU librarian has qualified for one. Read more.

Pramaggiore's New Book Part of Contemporary Directors Series
The University of Illinois Press has released Maria Pramaggiore's (film studies) latest book, Neil Jordan, as part of its Contemporary Film Directors series. The book considers the Irish director's films in relation to Irish literary and cultural traditions of gothic and satire. Jordan has directed The Crying Game, Michael Collins, and 14 other feature films since 1982. Pramaggiore is the director of NC State's Film Studies Program.

Dennis M. Daley (public administration) presented a paper on "Strategic Benefits in Human Resource Management" at the Western Political Science Association meeting.
