Guide to Personal Statement:
Most
law schools require each candidate submit this document. The prompts or
questions may vary by school so following their directions is the first
step. In addition to these guidelines, we have a document
developed by our Writing
and Speaking Tutorial Services. which is the office available to if
you need help reviewing your personal statement. Other useful sites
with regard to this writing assignment.
Guidelines for Letters of Recomendation (the LOR) part of the LSDAS (Law School Data Assembly Service). Letters of recomendation should accomplish all of the following: provide the law school with a picture of the applicant so they are remembered during the decision process, include facts about the candidate and provide support for the candidates ability. Review these documents, one from Cornell Assistant Dean and Charlotte Law School, to asses exactly what should be found in a "strong and supportive LOR".
Transcript Requests:
Each candidate must provide the Department of Registration and Records with the required form from Law Services. (below). Once the form is processed by the Department of Registration and Records the transcript will be sent directly to LSDAS.(Law Services Data Assembly Services). The following link will offer you additional information from Law Services regarding transcripts.
Dean's Certification:
Certain law schools ask for a "Dean's letter or Certification".
This document is provided by the law school in the application. The applicant takes or mails the form to the Department of Registration and Records, 1000 Harris Hall on campus, or Registration and Records Box 7313, NC State, Raleigh, NC 27695-7313.
The Registrar's office will process the requested information. The form is then sent directly, by the Registrar, to the Office of Student Conduct where their portion is completed. Once the form is complete it will be sent directly from the University to the requesting law school.
Volunteer Opportunities: In spring 2007 PLSA initiated the Volunteer Corps. This group of students has committed to work with the Clothes Closet a facility that helps provide clothes for the poor and homeless of Raleigh located in the First Baptist Church in downtown.
If you would like to be a part of this effort send an email with the subject stating "service and pre-law" and contact the Vice President of the Pre-Law Students Association and Volunteer Coordinator.
