Principal Investigators
  • Mary Wyer
    Wyer is an Interim Associate Dean for research in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She is also a faculty member in NC State University's Psychology in the Public Interest Program, which is dedicated to the application of psychological theory to program evaluation and public policy. Wyer's research focuses on images of STEM professions and professionals, attitudes toward gender equality in STEM, and educational persistence and career goals. She is currently co-Principal Investigator on the N.C. State University, NSF ADVANCE project (2008-2011), focusing on diversity in the faculty ranks in higher education.

  • Sylvia Nassar-McMillan
    Nassar-McMillan is a faculty member in NC State University's Counselor Education Program, which offers a Ph.D. program in counseling. Nassar-McMillan has an active research agenda in areas of multicultural diversity. She is a licensed counselor and clinical supervisor, experienced in assessing issues related to career, gender, and ethnic identity development and psychological well-being. Her current projects include foci of gender, ethnicity, and acculturation issues, within both educational and mental health arenas.

  • Maria Oliver-Hoyo
    Oliver-Hoyo is an associate professor of chemistry whose research interests encompass the development of pedagogical materials for chemistry instruction. Current projects include the development of sensorial experiments for the blind, nanotechnology for the undergraduate curriculum, and the expansion of a fully integrated lab-lecture format of instruction in general chemistry. She is currently a NSF CAREER awardee and directs doctoral research in chemical education through the Department of Chemistry at NC State University.
