Administration of the Survey

Step 1:
Faculty/instructors of STEM classes sent an email to mm_nsf_lab@ncsu.edu to indicate their interest in participating, send a list of students' email addresses (no names), specify if there will be an incentive for students, and arrange for specific dates for data collection.
Step 2: Faculty/instructors gave an in class introduction of the survey to their class and announced the incentives for participation (determined by the instructor), if applicable. Additionally faculty/instructors may also have sent an email to students specifying the survey will be coming from the project's email address (mm_nsf_lab@ncsu.edu).
Step 3: The lab representative sent students an email with the survey (approximately 15 minutes long) and instructions and other pertinent information (mm_nsf_lab@ncsu.edu).
Step 4: The lab representative sent survey reminders and deadlines, and kept faculty/instructors updated about participation rates throughout the process.
Step 5: For those classes offering an incentive for completing the survey, researchers sent faculty a list of the students' email addresses (not names) who completed the survey.

Confidentiality: Permission from the participating university’s IRB was obtained. The lab has secured IRB approval for your students to begin participation. Student participation was monitored via email addresses only. After students submitted the survey, a screen appeared thanking them for their participation.
