Undergraduate Retention and Graduation Rate Task Force

2002-2003

CHARGE

The task force is asked to accomplish the following tasks.

  • Based on relevant demographic and survey data and on research findings about student progress at NC State University and elsewhere, identify the major factors contributing to retention and attrition.
  • Consider the impact of the new Progress Toward Undergraduate Degree Completion initiative as it pertains to retention and review plans to track its effects on retention and time to degree.
  • Recommend specific strategies for improving retention at NC State University.
  • Develop plans to assess the effectiveness of recommended strategies for improving retention at NC State University.

Please work closely with University Planning and Analysis to coordinate the activities of the Task Force on Undergraduate Retention. The group may solicit advice from others on campus and request special analyses to support its work. Information which may be of particular interest includes: retention and graduation rate analyses within and across colleges; student flow studies, descriptions and assessment reports on academic support services; curriculum information (i.e., credits required for graduations, distribution of requirements, co-curricular programs (co-op), dual degree programs, minors, etc.); and elements of NC State's financial aid strategies (i.e., front loading, work-study, financial planning).
