North Carolina State University Handbook for Advising and Teaching

2-1.2 TRANSFER STUDENTS

Students applying for transfer admission must present a minimum of 30 semester hours of C-  or better college level work.  Freshman level students are not normally accepted for transfer except those meeting the 15 semester hour NC State Lifelong Education student rule. Priority is given to students who have completed a minimum of 60 hours of applicable college work.

College credits must have been earned at an accredited institution and should include a grade of C- or better on a college level English course and a college level mathematics course applicable to the degree program for which application is made. All transfer applicants who graduated from high school since 1988 must submit a high school transcript to verify that they have met the Minimum Admissions Requirements for high school course preparation as required by The University of North Carolina.

Students must be eligible to return to all institutions attended or Admissions Committee review is required. A minimum grade point average of 2.0 on all previously attempted college level work is required for admission to the University; however, most programs require a grade point average well above a 2.0. Advisers should contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office to determine specific requirements. Admission is competitive; therefore, the completion of minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Any exceptions to admission requirements for transfer students must be approved by the faculty Admissions Committee.
Credit accepted for transfer from another college or university is shown only as credit hours and is not included in the computation of the NC State grade point average. In the few cases in which the Admissions Committee admits transfer students with grade averages below 2.0, no deficiency of quality points is carried over from the record at the previous institution.
