2-1.6 NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

NC State’s New Student Orientation (NSO) coordinates NC State University's collective efforts to provide programs and services to newly admitted first-year and transfer undergraduate students that will facilitate their transition into NC State, prepare them for the institution's educational opportunities, and initiate their integration into the institution's intellectual, cultural, and social climate.

In order to take maximum advantage of the orientation process, first-year students must attend the Orientation session designated for their college or curriculum. First-year students will participate in a two-day session scheduled during July through early August that will provide information related to their academic program and crucial for their success. New Student Orientation, a part of the Division of Undergraduate Academic Programs, coordinates the student Orientation program while Parents’ Orientation (http://www.ncsu.edu/for_parents/Orientation/) is coordinated by the office of Parents and Families Services (Student Affairs).

Three one-day sessions for transfer students are also scheduled during July and August. During these transfer programs students are introduced to essential information and valuable campus resources, and provided the opportunity to meet with their college or departmental representatives. First-year and transfer students who begin classes in the spring semester should plan to attend either of the one-day orientation programs scheduled in December and January.
