North Carolina State University Handbook for Advising and Teaching

5-1 INTRODUCTION

On at least one occasion prior to each term of enrollment, students should consult with their faculty advisers on the selection of courses. The usual time for this advising to occur is during the registration advising period which occurs immediately after mid-term; courses for the next term of enrollment are selected at that time. (Students on Academic Warning or Probation are also required to consult with their advisers during the first four weeks of each semester.)

During the enrollment in a course there are expectations of responsibility for the student and teacher which are guided by academic policy and faculty expertise. Students are permitted to adjust their course loads and selections during the early part of the term as described herein. Evaluative feedback within the course occurs between teacher and student on schedules appropriate to the subject matter of the course and the professional judgment of the teacher; early evaluative feedback is encouraged and is expected to occur during the first six weeks of a regular semester. Formal notice of academic difficulty is expected at mid-term. Official recording of performance on the student's transcript is made after the end of the course.
