North Carolina State University Handbook for Advising and Teaching

5-2.3 GRADUATE CREDIT FOR SENIORS

A member of the senior class may, with prior approval of the Dean of The Graduate School, register for graduate credit in courses at the 400 and 500 levels as long as the combined graduate and undergraduate credit load in a given semester is not more than 15 hours. No more than six hours of graduate credit may be accumulated by an undergraduate student, and those graduate credits may not be applied toward the requirements for a baccalaureate degree. Courses at the 600 level are not ordinarily open to undergraduates, although occasional exceptions are made for honor students. Requests for graduate credit for seniors are made by the student's academic adviser to the Graduate Dean.

Seniors who are clearly qualified may be permitted to carry a combined graduate and undergraduate credit load of 18 rather than 15 hours per semester. Such students must have a 3.2 or better average in the major, and requests to The Graduate School from the student's adviser must have departmental approval.
